And in the words of Coach Joel Nellis of Brookfield Central High School, \u201cWhat you reward gets repeated\u201d<\/em> (04:40).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After losing his dog one afternoon, he showed up to practice that same day. \u201cI was more than willing to give him the day off,\u201d<\/em> Nellis recalls, \u201cbut he said that it was gonna feel better for him to be there\u201d<\/em> (02:20).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Evan earned the Sacrifice Award at the banquet. More importantly, his actions became the gold standard for what the program values. That kind of recognition tells every player that there\u2019s honor in doing the hard, thankless work\u2014and that everyone has a role to play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Create Visible, Lasting Reminders of Your Culture<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Recognition doesn\u2019t stop at the banquet. Coach Nellis plans to \u201cput together a board that lives in our locker room that shows those core value winners year after year\u201d<\/em> (04:40). That physical presence keeps the message alive: character counts every day, not just on game day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
