The Art of Creating Turnovers – Scott Shafer, Defensive Coordinator, MTSU

Scott Shafer is the defensive coordinator at Middle Tennessee State. He has also previously served in the DC role at Northern Illinois, Western Michigan, Stanford, Michigan, and at Syracuse, where he was the head coach from 2013-2015.

In this episode, a segment from Lauren’s First and Goal, Scott Shafer shares his philosophies and coaching points to increase turnover creation. Coach Shafer’s defensive units are consistently among the best in the country at creating turnovers, including during the 2022 season when MTSU ranked third in turnovers gained. Over the past two seasons combined, Coach Shafer’s defense has produced 62 total turnovers – the most in college football.
